Cleveland, Ohio-born rapper/songwriter werdperfect grew up in an artistic environment. Born to Andy Leeb, a classic Rock guitarist and his wife Patricia Wade who is a music connoisseur, werdperfect was imbued with the various sounds emanating from his youth via his parent’s vast collection. As a teenager he joined the rap group known as Anti Biter Coalition and opened for a laundry list of legendary rap acts from the late DOOM, Canada’s Swollen Members, Tha Alkhaholiks and more. Now based in LA, werdperfect is charting his path as a solo artist and he drops a couple of tracks to show us what he has been working on.
“Kitty Hawk” is the first track on our radar and it’s a mid-tempo head nodding off-centre tune with punchy boombap drums and a haunting jazz organ riff and sublime textures underpinned by the rapper’s smooth and commanding flow. Here, he runs through the opposition with hard-hitting bars and closes it with a reminder about his journey on the hook with the lines “This overnight success took like 10 years”

The second track “Gold Medallion” is made up of a crunchy and booming bass-driven drum, a slick bluesy guitar riff and cinematic textures that sound like a scene from a B-movie. Here, werdperfect comes forth with his expressive flow nd vivid rhyme schemes that keep listeners locked in. The production is quite dynamic and switches up into a moody and melancholic vibe in the second verse.
