The music video format has been around for decades, from the 90s and 2000s, and has shifted from multi-million-dollar-budget music videos to mid- to low-budget videos with exceptional production values. In this section, we will not discriminate but highlight some creative visuals that pop up on our radar.

Nec Nymbl x Es – “Voices”
The dynamic duo Nec Nymbl and Es continue their musical campaign with the latest being “Voices.” The track explores using one voice as an instrument to influence and achieve positive outcomes in a world where negativity rules. Backed by the cinematic production of Nec Nymbl, Mississauga emcee Es delivers fiery verses, underpinned by thought-provoking, insightful lyrics that also serve as a call to action. The song comes with an AI-assisted visual that blends off-kilter, experimental elements with motifs that underscore the song’s theme.

Cornfed Ted – “Let Him Breathe”
“Let Him Breathe” is a song by emerging rapper Cornfed Ted that explores the daily grind he is used to. From watching the detractors, weaving through fairweather friends and taking calculated risks, Cornfed Ted is all about making the right decisions. The visual follows the rapper through different spots and uses subtle visual effects to capture his progress.
SHUB – “Rise”
Powwow Step pioneer SHUB returns with the visual for his song “Rise” featuring Aysanabee and Drezus. The track is a perfect mix of contemporary pop with hip-hop and electronic sensibilities, and explores the power of one’s roots, and its everlasting effect. The production is dynamic and multi-layered with warm cinematic strings/pads and punchy rhythms underpinned by insightful raps and soul-stirring melodies. The accompanying visual captures the artists in different spots as they perform their respective parts, and also layers it with historic pictures of their forebearers in the new land
The track is from SHUB’s new project Heritage (Part Two), the concluding chapter of his most ambitious project to date, out May 1st.
Maria Ellis – “Relapse”
Rising pop artist Maria Ellis presents the visuals for her new pop/R&B cut “Relapse.” The upbeat single explores being caught up in a toxic relationship while knowing that walking away is the best option. The production echoes the modern pop sound, with lush textures, power chords, and energetic drum grooves, underpinned by sultry melodic runs and a catchy hook to close the deal. The visual style is mostly performance-based, using subtle visual cues and motifs to highlight the trappings of being stuck in one place.
Ricky Lake x Tommy with the Tool – “TRIGENCO (OUTRO)”
“TRIGENCO (OUTRO)” is a collaboration by Ricky Lake and Tommy with the Tool. The track is a reflective piece that takes them back to their childhood days when life was simpler and they lived with no worries. The production has an atmospheric, ethereal vibe, while their flow is expressive and emotionally punchy. The accompanying visual finds the duo in the woods performing the track. The track is taken from the EP HOMME.
RchoiceBelieve x Fatal Lucciauno – “iGeneration”
“iGeneration” by RchoiceBelieve and Fatal Lucciauno is a rock/folk-infused track that explores the internal struggles of young people in this modern, broken system. From the predatory capitalistic structures, to the rise of mental health pressures and declining economic opportunities, Seattle rapper Fatal Lucciauno brings it all home with his insightful songwriting and laidback flow over RchoiceBelieve’s solemn folk guitar licks.
The visual style uses a wide variety of shots and clips to capture the modern world in a documentary style.
