Wisconsin producer/ engineer B4Lasers enters our radar with his 12 track body of work titled Carpe Diem. The project is a blend of sounds and production styles that mix hip-hop, r&b/soul with experimental lo-fi sensibilities.

From the solemn opening track “Aviation” to the reflective vocal sample-driven “Detroit Afternoonz” to “feelmeh” which has a smooth alluring chord and punchy drum breaks. On “thankhim” he flips a classic sample into something refreshing and nostalgic.  “finerum” takes a West African sample and chops it up nicely with well-timed percussions and flip changes. “lakeshoredrive” is another solemn joint that hits the soul with its smoothness and reflective strings over solid drum patterns. He goes for an off-beat style on “on tha ground” with an off-kilter drum arrangement and lush guitar licks to match. Another gem is “Power” which uses a familiar soul sample that is slowed down to give it an emotionally gripping element.

The entire project is quite engaging and perfect to study to or acts as the right backdrop for one to just chill with.
