LA-based multi-faceted band The Neighborhood Orchestra team up with rap luminary Murs for their new single “A Girl Like You”. The track is a celebration of feminine energy and the dynamics of true love steeped in good memories. Led by bandleader and bassist Guillermo “Memo” Tejeda, the band delivers a resounding soulful backdrop made up of soft bass-driven drum grooves, warm pads and uplifting horn passes for Murs to share his experience of love. In true Murs fashion, he takes us back to the past when he met his girl and runs through the different memories they had together. His knack for painting such vivid and relatable tales is what makes the track endearing and listeners would surely love the refreshing candour and vulnerability shown.
“A Girl Like You” is the precursor to the band’s forthcoming album to be recorded and produced by Grammy award winner Josef Leimberg.
In addition to the notable festival performances, The Neighborhood Orchestra is revolutioning the live music experience through the creation of ‘The Jazz Dojo,’ and innovative music residency and community-dwelling at Hello Stranger in Little Tokyo. Hosted on the first and third Tuesday of each month, the series is pioneering a Blockchain-based Jazz Dojo Membership NFT system to connect artists and audiences like never before awarding the first 1000 participants and exclusive NFT that provides discounts, exclusive content, and special even merchandise. In the same vein of a traditional dojo in which martial arts are practiced and refined, The Neighborhood Orchestra uses the residency as a platform to road-test new material, treat fans to never-before-heard songs, and invite notable musicians to open the night and sit in during the performances.
The Jazz Dojo is frequently hosted by Sandra Izsadore, who met and connected with legendary Nigerian musician and activist, Fela Kuti, during his 10-month US tour with his project Koola Lobitos in 1969. As a Black rights activist, Izsadore introduced Fela to the writings of Malcolm X, Angela Davis, and additional revolutionaries whom Fela credits with inspiring his philosophy of Blackism and using music as a weapon to voice injustice, political corruption, and colonialism. The relationship between The Neighborhood Orchestra and Izadore is a further testament to the cross-generational, cross-cultural experience The Neighborhood Orchestra imparts during all of its performances.
The Jazz Dojo at Hello Stranger takes place from 8:00 – 11:30 pm the first and third Tuesday of every month and is located at 320 E 2nd St, Los Angeles, CA 90012.
