About:
Jimi Tents has worked relentlessly to earn recognition in his hometown, a formidable challenge in the birthplace of hip-hop that is saturated with talent. The East New York wordsmith laid down the groundwork with the 2015 release of his debut project 5 O’Clock Shadow, with the lead single “Landslide,” earning over 2.1M streams on Spotify. The track was also named ‘Best New Track’ by Pitchfork. Jimi’s early success led to an opening spot on Justin Bieber’s Purpose Tour for no better venues than New York’s legendary arena, Madison Square Garden, and Jimi’s home stadium, the Barclay Center. The follow-up project, I Can’t Go Home is his coming-of-age story. It’s a chronicle of the perks that comes with fame, balanced with tough realities, including the loss of his family’s home due to gentrification. The project is inspired by his transition between the boroughs and is the narrative of a character who’s realizes his opportunity and leaves to chase it by any means necessary. All while still feeling equally attached and removed from a once familiar place. It speaks on change of various multitudes and one’s will to persevere. I Can’t Go Home is a state of mind to say the least, as Jimi refuses to return to East New York empty-handed.
