Australia-based singer/songwriter Tiaryn brings the flair of contemporary pop, unique soulful aesthetics, and elements of alternative music to her musical repertoire. Her forthcoming debut album, Disco Dress, encapsulates her musical range and versatility, but in the interim, she delivers the final single, “Safely,” as a taste of what’s to come. The track is a rich, heartfelt ballad that explores the aftermath of a tumultuous relationship where one party has fully exhausted all options and is rebuilding their life with renewed vigour and mental clarity. Lines like “I wanted all of you so I gave all of me” address the mental strain of her past situation, before “Jumping now the deep waters/to cleanse myself of you/you know what you didn’t do/and now I can be myself, safely” to find her true self. The production by her 5-member band evokes nostalgia and warmth, and forms the perfect backdrop for Tiaryn’s honeyed vocal runs. From the warm Rhodes and slick vibraphone textures, soft harp riffs and smooth drum grooves, the backdrop slowly rises to a crescendo alongside Tiaryn’s emotionally punchy performance.
