The late Calgary, AB, Canada musician/songwriter Flytrap connects with genre-bending duo Sargeant X Comrade for “Straight To The Moon.” The track is an eclectic soul/electronic/space funk-infused track that is inspired by recent space explorations. Backed by the atmospheric textures, downtempo funk grooves and scenic elements, Yolanda Sargeant (Sargeant X Comrade) takes the reins with her laidback, sultry melodic voice. Also joining them on the track are longtime Flytrap collaborator Ravi Poliah and Jonathan Lewis on the string section.
The accompanying visual has a psychedelic/trippy feel with colourful elements to match the out-of-this-world set pieces. From Yolanda’s eclectic fashion style to the off-the-wall costumes and retro alien characters and backdrops, audiences are in for a memorable ride to the moon.
“Straight To The Moon” is taken from the upcoming album Weapons Of Mass Creation, dropping June 21st on Mo Gravy Records. The project serves as a tribute to Flytrap’s musical legacy and contribution to the local music community and is a compilation of musical recordings he was working on across different studios. Although he did not get a chance to finish this record since his passing in 2023, his musical family has come together to finalize the project in his honour. This record brings together over 20 top-tier musicians, 5 amazing singers (known as the “Fly Girls”), and a feature from legendary New York rapper Kool Keith. Spearheaded by Linda Kee (Marvin’s sister) and producer Evgeniy Bykovets (Sargeant X Comrade).
