Miami-born, LA-based independent musician Lo Artiz is back with something new in the form of the single titled “PIECES.” Inspired by her tumultuous experience of being diagnosed with Bipolar 2 and recovery from an eating disorder, the track explores the emotional pain from being inadequate and broken from within. The track produced by Trey Kams has a deep, sombre feel with downtempo rhythms and moody textures that highlight Lo Artiz’s journey from a dark space to finding the inner light that was always within. Armed with her expressive and breathy vocal style, Lo Artiz takes audiences on an emotional journey filled with self-doubt, sadness and shame and details it with lines like “‘could you please spare a moment/No one’s been there before and –/I’m so tired of the night,/Been living days without light.” She also highlights her reformative process, “I’ve been trynna grow from the things that I don’t show/Fixin’ pieces that got broke, could someone still love me?” as she pushes through the doldrums to find true self-worth.
The track is quite touching, personal and relatable to everyone going through similar struggles, and it can surely serve as a form of self-therapy.
