(note: this post was way overdue)

The second night of Pharoahe Monch’s #WAR tour over in Pomona has been a great experience to check out. Because of the fact that the venue is small made it much more of an intimate show. I got there just in time to check out the artists of the Black Cloud music label performing (Faimkills, Noa James, Art Barz, Curtiss King, and Jynxx). To be totally honest, the independent hiphop scene out in the 626/Inland Empire is definitely buzzworthy in comparison to the common (yet popular) LA scene. You can definitely see the passion in the artist’s individual performances that night. Once their set was over, the hosts for the night Rebels To The Grain has performed a couple of songs during the intermission. Believe me, it didnt end there…

While Rebels To The Grain entertained the patrons inside Aladdin’s, some of the Black Cloud members were having a freestyle session outside in front, having people in the area come check out the circle (see pictures below). Close to 11pm, Pharoahe Monch, Mela MaChinko, Showtyme, and DJ Boogie Blind (X-Ecutioners) were walking inside the venue to get ready. After RTTG ended their intermission, DJ Boogie Blind got on the tables and played some tunes to warm up the crowd for Pharoahe Monch’s entrance. Once it became time for him to hit the stage, the cord to the soundsystem was cut by the door next to the stage, leaving the power to temporarily go out. Wasting no time, the folks in charge rushed to get another cord and linked everything back together so that the show can go on. Then the guest of the night stepped to the stage and dominated it with his presence, sharing the spotlight with Mela and Showtyme!  DJ Boogie Blind got his time to shine, showing why he’s an X-Ecutioner. The crew performed a few tracks from his new album like Clap, Shine, Black Hand Side, and Still Standing, while going into the Desire album, performing Free, When The Gun Draws, Push, and Desire. He also went back and performed the classic anthem, Simon Says! At the end of the night, Pharoahe Monch signed autographs and taken pictures with the fans in attendance. It was an awesome night..
