It won’t be fair not to show love to the cats that work behind the boards. Cats whose soundscapes help push hip-hop to loft heights. So in the same vein, this weekly list sheds light on budding and even established producers who continue to push the envelope for the culture. So sit back relax and get familiar with these producers.

1-800-lost – “Kokiri”

1-800-lost shares “kokiri”, a summery track that exudes that nice warm vibe we all love. It was built on laid-back drums and obscure layered vocal samples.  “Kokiri” is from the producer’s 2nd ep ‘Ukiyo’

Outerman – Peonies.

The 3-man instrumental project known as Outerman makes their TWIB debut with their new release titled “Peonies”. The short instrumental exudes a very reflective and soothing vibe with its lush guitars and smooth keys. The track evokes the idea of lightness, but somewhat melancholic happiness in a relationship that is slowly drifting.

Outerman is made up of drummer Brian Stevenson, lead guitarist Miles Chan, and multi-instrumentalist and vocalist Jonas Waye.

 

 

 

SlimYungMan – “HeartOnMySleeve”

SlimYungMan returns to our list with another solid effort he calls “HeartOnMySleeve”. He blends a myriad of soothing instruments on this one ranging from solemn strings, engulfing arps and solid drums to tie it all together. He also adds that “HeartOnMySleeve”. will not be on his upcoming album ‘Overthinking – Understanding

Tieran – “Raindrops”

Tieran is still grinding on his production tip as he hits us with another gem titled “Raindrops”. The track is a smooth blend of jazz, electronic and ambient music laced with vintage hip-hop styled percussions.

The song is drenched with beautiful melodies and, lush guitars courtesy of Josh Mergler.  “Raindrops” is taken from  Tieran’s album Sunday.

El Jibs – “The Secret Incantation”

El Jibs single “The Secret Incantation” is the lead track off his witch-themed EP called ‘Beware the Witch‘. The single feels like a movie and the dynamics do change with it’s dreamy and ethereal layered textures.

 

 

 

Toru – “Leaving”

SF based producer Toru returns with a guitar-driven beat he calls “Leaving”.  He blends it with short vocal snippets over smooth boom-bap drums. Get it on Spotify.

 

 

Sam Penrhyn-Lowe – “I want eclairs in French”

Multi-instrumentalist Sam Penrhyn-Lowe makes his debut on the top 10 this week with his soothing beat titled “I want eclairs in French”. The title already suggests what kind of vibe we should expect though as Lowe crafts a one hell of a silky backdrop. The strings are very alluring and the reflective chords do give off that vintage feeling. In his own words “…it was a strange mix of emotions but both were there so I wanted to create a space where other people could listen to my music and go to a place where they could project whatever feeling onto the song …”

MelodicDissonance – “The Dive”

MelodicDissonance switches up the vibe with his beat titled “Dive”. A blend of retro jazz instruments layered over a laid back trap infused beat. Very smooth and alluring.
