Independent rapper/songwriter Tom Damien is not new to us and has appeared a number of times. In his new effort, he shares some songs from his stash. “Burning in Water” and “Why” are the songs in question and showcase his versatile songwriting and evocative flow.

“Burning in Water” explores the concept of finding one’s way in the midst of naysayers and hurdles. Over a sombre and brooding soundscape, Tom shares his hopes, fears and dreams reminding us that achieving something great is never a walk in the park and it takes time and dedication.

The second track “Why” is a more recent release and it’s produced by Plantcham who laces Tom with a moody and chilled soundscape to work with. Tom goes into introspective mode and details how a lack of self-love can be detrimental in the long run. Far from being a sob story, Tom gives listeners a nuanced and candid look into his life. He asks himself the toughest questions and proceeds to face his fears and conquer his demons at the same time.
