After teasing fans with multiple singles, the genre-bending music project Freedust has finally released its 4th album, Voyager. The 16-track body of rock is a culmination of years of hard work and their time-tested musicianship that bridges a host of genres and styles. The project is fully hands-on as it brings together musicians, singers and instrumentalists from different backgrounds and nationalities. Led by eight vocalists who lend their expertise over retro-tinged backdrops ranging from funk, soul, hip-hop and contemporary pop with soft rock sensibilities.  The project is led by two tracks, “Deep Down In Your Soul” and “Weight Up,” that highlight the musical range and versatility shown across the project.

“Deep Down In Your Soul” brings Angolan-Portuguese singer and rapper Mabreezee (Mário Luís Guardado Novais) and Freedust’s Daniele Carmosino for a soul-searching piece that reminds us of our true purpose. The production is a dynamic and cinematic effort comprising rising pads, lush textures and grooves underpinned by sublime and layered vocal runs. The theme is punctuated with lines like Listen to your body/if you wanna grow/you can have it, you can chase it or just let it go/listen to your body if you wanna grow/maybe we can find the answers/deep down in your soul.” The track also involves Mexican pianist Mark Aanderud, Austrian composer Christof Unterberger, who plays the strings and background vocals from a live Nigerian gospel choir known as Heartbeat Soundworks. The next track, “Weight Up,” is a smooth jazz/hip-hop infused cut that features rapper Bardo San, who flows effortlessly over a scenic backdrop ripe with upright basslines, snapping drums and soulful pads and keys. The verses are packed with vivid lyricism and an undeniable swaggering presence, while the dynamic backdrop rises to the occasion with subtle chord changes and rises.
