South Central Los Angeles-based rapper SdotFrmDaBlock takes us on an adrenaline-pumping trip into South Central in his new project  Touchin Bases Safe3. The 7-track body-of-work is part of a larger body of work the rapper has been working on for close to 5 years. The theme of the project is anchored on the rapper’s city where South Central plays as one of the main characters with other characters revolving around it.

The first track “Notha Day” is a straightforward, no-holds-barred depiction of South Central in all its glory. Over the atmospheric and punchy soundscape, SdotFrmDaBlock gives audiences raw footage with lines likeHomicide, body for body when we retaliate/Spin the block when they see us, we make niggaz break” while fellow rapper Lil Tk adds a secondary perspective to the track. The second track “Monetized” is another gritty track filled with street tales and several characters who got caught up in the drama. Here SdotFrmDaBlock delivers a distinct and energetic performance ripe with vivid lyricism and he is joined by KaashDaRapper who closes it on the last verse with his baritone vocals. The next track “5 on Em” flips the classic Da Luniz track and flips it into a bass-heavy West Coast street banger. The track has a dark and ominous vibe which is brought to life by SdotFrmDaBlock’s detailed raps about clearing out the opposition. He has an attention to detail and his knack for creating adrenaline-pumping tales is one for the books. Joining him on the track is 1Tre3x with his laidback and somewhat lazy drawl.

The project thus far delivers on its promise with hard-hitting soundscapes and unfiltered tales happening in South Central. SdotFrmDaBlock leaves no stone unturned and continues to revel in his deep knowledge of the dynamics of the gang culture and how he survived it all.  He brings audiences closer to the action on“Good Day” which breaks down different characters in his hood. From the skeezers, gang bangers, D-boys to boss ladies who make the block spin. “Scuffle” is raw bravado on wax with  SdotFrmDaBlock standing on business as a man not to be toyed with. Another dope track is the cinematic“Different K,” a posse cut that brings together Skramz, Punch,  and 1Tre3x for a solid lyrical display. The beat used is atmospheric and dynamic and the icing on the cake is the various styles, the rappers bring to the table. The last track “Roach” has a tinge of playfulness and sincerity from SdotFrmDaBlock who hams up his status with lines like “I’m standing on my ground my niga, I can do no breaking/Fuck all that house and the pigs, I can do no bacon/Going against the grain out the gate, boy you mistaken/Dancing with a devil or demon/I seen you the Satan.

Touchin Bases Safe3 feels like a quick glimpse into the inner workings of South Central Los Angeles. SdotFrmDaBlock represents his hometown to the fullest with his rich lyrical tapestry and imagery and his use of bouncy and hard-hitting beats works perfectly as well.
