Emerging rapper YFN Key2fly steps into the limelight with his debut project Sorry 4 The Wait, a 7-track body of work that explores different sides to his artistry. From the jump, one can tell he has found his sound and he makes good with his style. Steeped in melodic rap, personal topics and the ability to be versatile and emotional, YFN Key2fly proceeds to dazzle fans with his brand of hip-hop.

The project opens up with the solemn and emotional track “Did U Wrong.” Over moody piano keys, punchy bass-driven trap drums, YFN Key2fly pours his feelings on wax with all sincerity. The track follows him after a bad breakup and his connecting with a new woman who also came from a similar situation and the instant connection they shared. The rapper doesn’t mince his words with the lines “f your last nigga, he did you wrong, F my last bitch, she did me wrong” and lets his feelings known. The next song “Sorry For The Wait” starts with a soul-stirring guitar lick and soothing melodic hums before the beat drops. Here, YFN Key2fly talks about his journey as an artist and his vision to be the best man he can be. He acknowledges that his doggedness and commitment to music keeps him away from his loved ones but promises that things will get better soon. The track is quite emotional and once again shows his self-awareness and ability to express a range of emotions. Those traits are further expanded on the next track “Down In Tears” as he reflects on loss, the dark side of the streets and how it made him paranoid and edgy. The track shows the negative traits that come with being street-struck but fortunately, YFN Key2fly is not glorifying it but rather pointing these things out for audiences to fully understand the ramifications.

The project continues to dwell into different spheres of his life. From blossoming love, sex, and aspirational themes, to no-holds-barred bravado raps.  “More Than Friends” is an intimate piece that is about a woman who caught his heart and he is trying to make her his main. Over an atmospheric and ethereal backdrop comprising thick synth pads and punchy downtempo drums, YFN Key2fly delivers an expressive performance ripe with authentic songwriting. In “Money Fetish,” he boldly states his love for the dollar and doesn’t mince his words regarding securing his bag. His flow here is boisterous, lively and bravado-tinged but for the most part, emotionally powerful.  This is followed by “So Lonely,” a reflective track that explores balancing career goals and inner happiness. Backed by a cinematic trap soundscape, YFN Key2fly states his mission parameters with lines like “They say it’s lonely at the top, that is what they told me/But ama be watching the hate from the nose bleed/I don’t give a fuck, I’m too busy chasing a dream.  That alone underscores his winning mentality and how focused he is on his goals. The final track “Outro” continues with a similar theme as the previous track and closes out the project on a high note.  YFN Key2fly doesn’t hold back and lets loose with hard-hitting bars from start to finish.

Sorry 4 The Wait is as cohesive as velcro and YFN Key2fly sounds confident on all the tracks. He can instantly switch from street talk to emotional verbiage to reflective thoughts in a heartbeat and that is just one aspect of his numerous skill set.
