St. Paul singer, rapper/ songwriter/producer Ka Lia Universe started out by posting videos of her jamming to Britney Spears and Alicia Keys records to sneaking into her brother’s room to teach herself the guitar and piano. This opportunity lead her to start composing her own songs and taking part in different events in her city. She capped this by dropping two albums under her government name before going on an hiatus but now she has returned with a new moniker and branded as Ka Lia Universe, she is set to take on the world with her brand of genre-fusing music that is also rooted in her Laotian Hmong culture.

Her latest release “i deserve better” centres around the dynamics of a one-sided relationship and its negative effects. However, she takes charge and makes her exit even though leaving a long-term relationship can be tough. The track has a bright pop-infused hip-hop backdrop and we get to hear Ka Lia dropping candid raps on the verses and lighting it up with honeyed melodic runs as well. Lyrically, she doesn’t hold back on her former love and sheds light on his underhanded ways while taking the high road as she finds what she is truly worth.
