Montreal based emcee Jonathan Emile is back from cooking new fresh produce in the lab with this summer jam titled The City That Always Sleeps. Linking up with fellow Montrealiens; Tek Luciano and Natasha Marie, the trio proceed to show love for Montreal with a somewhat tongue in cheek message regarding the lack of support from the city. Less of an angry, unbridled rant but more of a positive outlook for their craft in a city that sometimes sleep on their skills.
The stage is set and The City That Always Sleep sets the right tone and balance as we await Jonathan Emile’s debut LP The Lover/Fighter Document LP‘. Hit The play button and get with the program.
Montreal-based rapper, singer, poet and speaker Jonathan Emile caused a stir earlier this year when his single ‘Heaven Help Dem‘ dropped, featuring the biggest artist in Hip Hop – Kendrick Lamar. For the better part of 2015, Jonathan has been in the studio wrapping up his debut album ‘The Lover/Fighter Document LP‘ and he’s back with a summer anthem to give you a taste of what to expect this fall.
‘The City That Always Sleeps’ is a dedication to Montreal’s infamous lackluster support of their home-grown talent featuring power couple Tek Luciano and Natasha Marie on the assist. Produced by Jonathan himself, the driving live horns lead the way for Tek’s hype delivery, setting it up for Natasha’s strong bars. Jonathan’s soulful yet understated hook lends itself perfectly to the core of the subject matter, while his extended verse truly shows his flair for conscious wordplay with a message.
‘The Lover/Fighter Document LP’ is due for release September 9th, featuring guest appearances from the likes of Buckshot, Murs, KRS-One and of course, Mr. Lamar, with production courtesy of Aphyliated, Lo-Go, MIYEKOW and Jonathan Emile.
