Denver, CO-based rapper/songwriter Chris Cart3r debuted on the scene in 2019 with his lead single “Money on My Mind” but his love for making music started in middle school after listening to Kanye’s 808s and Heartbreak.

The first track “Forgiveness” is a heartfelt showcase of accountability and agency in his past relationship. Here, he makes use of a sombre soundscape comprising pitched vocal samples, thick bass-driven downtempo drums and brooding textures to paint a detailed picture of regret. Chris’s melodic style is quite distinct and his intonations and use of subtle inflections add an extra emotional layer to the heartfelt song.

The second song “WHERE’S CART3R” starts with a pitched-up Chipmunk-styled vocal that sets the tone for Chris’s heartfelt and reflective lyrics. Backed by the bass-heavy, pulsating backdrop, he talks about the ups and downs of his life. Dealing with fake friends, depression, and self-doubts, he shows his vulnerable side and how he copes with the inner pain. His lyrics are touching and the use of expressive melodic runs in addition to his rapping makes the track versatile and engaging from start to finish.
