Kenn Starr releases Square One, his first album for eight years, and although it’s a rinsed cliche my word it was worth the wait. This album is one I’ve been anticipating literally since I first got in to hip-hop – Kenn Starr was one of the first MCs I heard and holds responsibility for my taste in music – and now it’s dropped… man… Some type of feeling.

The thing about Kenn Starr is that he holds five stars in every attribute you could want in an MC: silky flow, smooth voice, intelligent lyrics, wordplay, substance without an imposing degree of intensity. He’s just pure soul. The production is handled by names like 14KTBlack Milk and Kev Brown (who took care of most of it), and features from Wordsworth and yU add refreshing contributions.

Seriously, hit play on the opening track and you will know why Kenn Starr has the rep he does. Think Jay Electronica, except he actually drops the album he promises. Buy on iTunes or Bandcamp via Mello Music Group.
