Rising Canada based queer, Ethiopian/Eritrean, singer-songwriter, Witch Prophet caught our attention with her “Tesfay”  and its accompanying expressive visuals. The electic track is produced by SUN SUN and Witch Prophet herself and makes use of lush horns, afrocentric rhythms and warm textures. The title which translates to My Hope is inspired by her late grandfather.

Armed with her sultry commanding vocal style and vibrant energy, Witch Prophet delivers a resounding performance that dives into self-affirmation and positivity in the face of adversity and challenges. The visuals were directed by Toronto-based filmmaker and photographer, Leah Vlemmiks, who goes for a very artistic and expressive visual layered with motifs ranging from the specific costumes and dance choreography.

Witch Prophet is also the co-CEO of Heart Lake Records and her sophomore album, DNA Activation, now shortlisted for the 2020 Polaris Music Prize.
