Last week, we lost a pioneer of hip-hop who helped shape the sound of early rap recordings. Duke Bootee redefined the way songs were written when he penned “The Message.” I had to kick off the show with a small tribute to him. You will hear songs he’s produced, tracks he’s played and rapped on, and a few interview clips mixed in with that.

After that, my stay with the theme of saluting hip-hop icons and pay tribute to Ecstasy, who we lost recently. He was in the groundbreaking group Whodini and had some amazing success in the 1980s.

Next up, we pay tribute to Jam-Master Jay of Run-DMC. Word is Bond Rap Radio airs this week on what would have been his 56th birthday.

After that we interview the hosts of Alt.Pop.Repeat and discuss Run-DMC’s influence, the history of hip-hop, and have a lot of fun with this in-depth discussion.

Then we close things off with a mixset of some of my favourite MF DOOM tracks.

I couldn’t fit all of this into one 2 hour broadcast so I let it spill over an extra half hour. The podcast version is extended with about 20 minutes of additional material that I couldn’t fit into the 5 segments.

I hope you enjoy the show and take a moment to remember these icons.
