Sunshyne is a native hip-hop artist with roots in the Oneida and Chippewa Territories.  Her daughter has decided to follow in her footsteps and is set to release her debut album. In the meantime, they couldn’t sit on their hands as the horrors of residential schools has been coming to light.

The video was filmed in the territory of Deshkan Ziibiing, also known as Chippewa of the Thames First Nation and at the Ska-Nah-Doht Village and Museum, located within Longwoods Road Conservation Area.

This unique duo is also Mother and Daughter, and this project is their first collaboration together.

“Fists in the Air sets it vocals surrounding the atrocities done to our children throughout the history of the Residential School Systems. The visuals capture the resiliency of our people, the strength we carry within ourselves and for our community, the numbers we have in our youth, and most importantly;

WE ARE STILL HERE. PROUD. UNAPOLOGETIC. AND WITH OUR FISTS IN THE AIR!”
