Canada‘s very own Rel McCoy quickly re-ups with single number three. For his third release in as many months, Rel is joined by his label-mate and brethren, DIE-REK, to pop off the praise break for real.

While both ponder over their sobering thoughts and tinker with their coping mechanisms, their collective spirit of thanksgiving shines through in the bars. Master craftsman wordplay erupts in abundance over some angelic funk that sounds fresher than a Preacher’s clothes on a Sunday morning. Rel calls out haters who try to fade him out when he name drops the Saviour while DIE-REK stomps all over the sped up sample to remind us that family is more deep-rooted than lines – colour or blood – but his fam is still off limits.

Whether you have a hallelujah in your heart or on your lips, this is the soundtrack for those who continue to triumph while looking adversity dead in the eye. Leonard Cohen, no disrespect.

‘Hallelujah’ is out now on Illect Recordings. Stream / Download on all platforms.
