Multi-talented rapper/producer Redacted McFly sets off 2023 with a 5 track EP titled Storm Warning. The Bay Area, CA-based act has been putting in work and founded Pure Joy Records where he released some singles to test the waters. His latest release is a showcase of his versatility as an artist with a knack for modern sounds underpinned by fiery lyricism and an impassioned love for the art. The EP starts off with a befitting intro which sets the tone with its moody and heavy-bass-driven drill soundscape that is married with Redacted intense flow and bravado lyrics. This is followed by the bouncy “No Clue” with it’s club-styled vibe but the rapper is still on his square as he reminds us of the struggles and hurdles he had to face to reach his goals. Next up is the upbeat “Panic!” with its sparse guitar riffs and exotic textures. Just as the title suggests, Redacted gets into his bag and unleashes fiery bars with a vivid lyricism that holds up to today’s standards. The project ends with “Wash Away” and “Shaq ’94”, the former is a cinematic boom-bap tune while the latter has a classic 90s feel reminiscent of joints from Rawkus records. These tracks are a solid way to end as Redacted takes it back to the essence with stylish lyricism over punchy NY-boom bap soundscapes.
