Pook Hustle is far from being “Mediocre on his new effort as he takes the opposition to the task. Backed by the laid back thumping production from Wonderlust & WhatshisName, Pook Hustle serves up an anthem for anyone who hustles and puts in the work but is surrounded by a bunch of fakes and phonies who talk a big game. And it’s those actually “good actors” who are directly in the sights of Hustle, who wastes no time cutting them down to size with clever punchlines and wordplay.

“Mediocre” is taken from Pook Hustle’s Yellow Tape EP. Get it on all DSPs here.

Pook Hustle is an emerging hip-hop artist from Brooklyn, NY. His genre blending sound ranges from trap, rock and boom-bap. After graduating from college and hanging his basketball jersey, Pook found himself under extreme pressure; however, his tenacity turned pressure into diamonds. With his newfound clarity, the Brooklyn emcee sharpened his pencil and began shopping for studios, producers and even trying his hand at producing beats. After some success recording in his small, apartment studio, he was introduced to producer, “WhatsHisName,” via a close friend through instagram. The pair had instant chemistry and have been working diligently to perfect their sound. Their persistence manifested as the Blue Tape EP, an album exploring Pook’s experiences with colorism, racism and hyper-masculinity; these themes are paired with “WhatsHisName” melodic but dark, blue sound.
