Olav Abildgaard is a Norwegian rapper is a man who wears many hats, literally speaking. He is also a drummer, composer, audio engineer, and former National Poetry Slam Champion rolled into one and has written for ensembles of varying sizes and performed at numerous stages. His latest releases are two songs “Radical Music” and “Making Use of Rhymes” that explore his opinions on real-time issues bordering on freedom of speech, social-political change and the strive to find equality in an unfair world.

“Radical Music” is an aptly titled record that dives right into the topic with an impassioned flair and much gusto. Over the jazz-infused production that has sombre and reflective elements, Olav delivers his message in a free-flowing form ripe with profound thoughts on the current state of affairs ranging from the economic downturn, underhanded policies created by the powers that be and their lack of concern for the masses. Lines like  “It’s not radical to call out policies/It’s not radical to call out companies/It’s not radical to point at the economy, It’s not radical to point out that we could have poverty” accentuate the message of standing up to what is right and fair as opposed to living under the boots of the system.

The fun continues with “Making Use of Rhymes”, a thought-provoking tune that explores the mindset of folk who promote right-wing ideologies due to their in-built prejudices. Once again, Olav doesn’t spare those types of people and he tackles their views with logic and intellectual precision.
