No Face, No Name is a New Orleans-based group spearheaded by writer and main producer Tyris Terrell McKnight. Their latest release Love Was Never Enough is a 13-track love-themed project that explores the dynamics of love and heartbreak. Each track looks at the different aspects of love from specific lenses ranging from emotional needs, physical touch, longing, loss, heartbreak and more. The 13-track musical project blends a host of genres ranging from R&B/soul, hip-hop with pop elements and serves as a platform for talented artists as well.  Led by Tyris Terrell McKnight who does the bulk of the writing and rapping, he also recruits singers Wyfy, Amore and Soren.
The first track “Loved and Lost” talks about loss, and broken relationships from the perspective of a man. Singer Wyfy shares his feelings and the events that led to the degradation of his relationship. The guitar-driven beat has a warm vibe as well.  This is followed by “Impeccable”, a laidback love ballad with a modern R&B vibe underpinned by sultry vocals. Here singer Wyfy pours adulation on his lover and confesses how he is infatuated with her. The lyrics are classy with a touch of intimate details Next is “I know”, which is a blend of R&B/pop with a modern contemporary bounce. Singer Amore delivers a soothing and sultry performance. The track explores the need for emotional and physical touch between two lovers who are waiting to take the next step in solidifying their love.  The lyrics are vivid and engaging but not extremely explicit. The subtle approach is what makes the track refreshing and the catchy chorus too.

“Black Rose” has a contemporary pop soundscape, it is a departure from the previous songs and showcases Tyris Terrell McKnight’s versatility as a music producer. The use of autotune on the vocalist doesn’t dampen their style and for the most part, adds an extra oomph to the performance. Overall the instrumentation is layered and dynamic. “September 23rd” is a solemn love ballad that explores loss and regret. Over a solemn piano arrangement, the singer runs through a past relationship and the events that reshaped their lives. “Thoughts” is a reflective hip-hop/soul track that dives into admiration for that special someone who is also unforgettable. Tyris Terrell McKnight leads the charge as he pours his heart on wax with adulations and praises while the singer adds the perfect melodic hook. He paints a beautiful picture of true love and the sadness that comes when it is absent. “Whispering to the Stars (Poem)” is a spoken word piece anchored on the essence of love.

“How Real Love Can Be” is an acoustic guitar-driven track with a raw and somewhat unpolished aesthetic. The live instrumentation is untouched and in its original form, the same as the vocals. The track is performed by emerging singer Soren who shines bright with a distinct vocal tone and heartfelt songwriting. Overall, it sounds like an unplugged performance, but the appeal is in its originality. “Rest of My Life” is a laidback R&B reminiscent of the 90s. Amore’s sultry vocals are engaging and mesmerizing and her lyrics are unapologetic as she states her wants and needs.  “I Know- Dance Remix” is An electro-soul revamp that adds a different and engaging vibe to the original.

“Something Broke” is a solemn heartbreak anthem that dives into the aftermath of a relationship. Here, Tyris Terrell McKnight takes audiences on an emotional journey with lines like Picked up the pieces as I attempted to gather/What was left and then put it back together /I think its a tragedy to be alive and experience death/That part of me that died when you left, revived myself” which underscores his journey to self-healing. The chorus is sublime and melodic as well. “Crimes of Passion” is a conceptual track that talks about deep love and how it forces one to do extraordinary things for that special someone. The lyrics here are wholesome and lines like “Break my heart, break my soul/Tear me apart then make me whole/ play my cards right and don’t fold/Life’s a gamble, hopefully I strike gold. The final track, “The Feelings” is a spoken word piece about cherishing the special moments with a loved one. It’s a bittersweet piece that looks back at the fond memories that will always linger on.

Overall, Love Was Never Enough looks at the different aspects of love and how people experience it differently. From physical intimacy, emotional connections, turmoil, infatuation, constant yearning and heartbreaks, the project gives audiences an unapologetic and unfiltered perspective.
