South London singer-songwriter Monét breaks her short hiatus as she drops the visuals for her song “Wanna Know”. The song is a sublime and heartfelt tune that talks about the dynamics and unpredictable nature of love, relationships and the swirling emotions that come with it. Over a dreamy and sublime soundscape provided by JSTRNGS, Monét gives listeners a glimpse into her unfiltered thoughts as she poses some pertinent questions to a potential lover. Lines like “I just wanna know, tell me how you feel/Tired of playing games, told you keep it real” shows a refreshing candour in her approach to blossoming love.
The accompanying visuals shot by JJ Foster taps into the theme as it follows the singer in different locations conversing with herself in an attempt to understand her innermost feelings. The result is a brilliant blend of performance shots, reflective-themed cut scenes with seamless transitions and overall warm motifs.
Speaking on the track Monét said: “Wanna Know is an honest track about navigating through different stages of emotion. For me, it’s important to be as authentic as possible in my music so that people are able to connect with it”
From Peckham, South London, Monét began to write poetry at the tender age of 8, when she got her first taste of performing whilst showcasing her skills in primary school talent shows. Over the past few years, Monét has been studying journalism at university. Having graduated last year, her focus is now on honing her craft, tapping into the creative bubble of South London, and making music. Growing up with synesthesia, she uses her relationship with colour to her advantage, allowing tones to produce feelings and help direct her creative process in and out of the studio.
