Super emcees of the female gender never get their just due but Marquee is here to take it with her debut album Femme Fatale. The Lord Finesse affiliate is a pure lyrical beast when it comes to the lyrics and concepts and over this 15-track (including a remix) LP, we are subjected to fresh, hard-hitting flows and smooth delivery from top to bottom.

Teaming up with the Ninjustice production crew who bless Marquee with that good old 90s-esque boom-bap backdrop for her to showcase her skills. Over 15 joints, she weaves urban tales from a different perspective, tries to uplift the females to do better in whatever field they are in and also decimates fake/wack emcees in the process. This is all in a day’s job for Marquee. The songs hit hard and are refreshing as ever, check out songs like “Story Crook”, a fairy tale-inspired hood tale that fuses characters from popular fictional stories from Alice in Wonderland, the Brothers Grimm etc into a fabulous urban setting. Others include the head-nodding “Lean So Hard”, the all-female hit squad “Rude Girlz” and more.

She also brings along familiar names like Monifah, Prince Po, and Nature for the ride. Other notable features include singers Ms. Kennedy and Crystal Johnson,  Gstas (of the Bankai Family fame) and emcees Puff and Dawn Gun.

You already heard her voice on Lord Finesse “Awakening”, on Kelis’“Kaleidoscope”, together with Big L (R.I.P.), Nas, Noreaga, Mary J Blige, Stephen Simmons, MC Lyte, Queen Latifah and many other releases.

Production comes from the rising Ninjustice Production duo (Venom & KyoItachi), who provided dope beats. Marquee’s mentor and legend LordFinesse also supplied another superb production for the track “Lean So Hard”:
