Ken Valor is a hip-hop and R&B artist who caught our ears with his latest release titled Wont Forget Me EP. The 5 track body of work is a collection of songs that showcases his singing and rapping prowess over the hard-hitting trap and downtempo cinematic beats.

“Just Friends” is the opening track and it’s a vibrant melodic track that showcases his singing prowess and knack for vivid lyricism. Over the moody trap backdrop, he delivers a powerful performance ripe with rich melodies and heartfelt songwriting that dives into the concept of fledgling love between him and a particular lady. He realizes that what they have is heading nowhere and he is definitely not up for the mind games. “BARBADOS” has a dark and cinematic trap soundscape that sets the tone for Ken’s aggressive flow and unapologetic bravado raps. He holds nothing back as he goes for the jugular with his go-getter approach. He is ready and focused on his goals and reminds us that he is steady on the grind and has no time to waste on haters and detractors. Again, he packs the performance with subtle melodic runs that complement his fast-paced rapping.

“Secrets” has a sublime and atmospheric backdrop that slowly builds up into a crescendo. here, he fully embraces and displays his vocal range. He makes use of mellow cadences and soft layered harmonies to drive home this message of betrayal and heartbreak. His lyrics have a lovelorn theme that sees him appealing to this lady asking her to return before it’s too late and in due time he is going to move on to better things. The song is quite heartwarming, solemn and relatable as well. “WINS & LOSSES (Bonus)” has an anthemic aesthetic with its dark brass-driven arrangement, pads and soothing vocal samples. The track builds up slowly as well and once the 808 kick drops, Ken comes in with the verbal floodgate. Again, he is in his element and takes shots at the haters and detractors. Unapologetic rhymes like “Why you always trying to copy all my lingo/ama show you how the fuck I let this thing blow/Yo your bitch is always telling me I’m lean yo/If that’s your girl, I should tell her that you’re single” truly captures his aggressiveness and no holds barred approach.

The project closes out with “Handle It (Bonus)”, a sombre and somewhat reflective track made up of lush dark keys and warm textures. Here, Ken details his daily struggles ranging from love, artistic ventures and the allure of the streets. Ultimately, he shows how he found his footing and he gets back on his goals with full focus.

Overall, the EP has an exciting production and Ken’s knack for seamlessly mixing soothing melodies with edgy thought-provoking rap lyrics is brilliant.
