Kane Mayfield weaves a tale from both a local and foreign perspective to masterfully convey walking in another person’s shoes.

Shoes is one of the best tracks I’ve heard in 2015 (and beyond). Kane Mayfield gives honest and down to earth depictions from perspectives of the “other”. The sonic features of the downtempo boom bap, the record scratch and Mayfield’s relaxed vocals on the hook are the perfect medium for Kane Mayfield to deliver two verses, one from the worldview of an employed black professional and the other from a foreign accented store owner. The vibe and intellect of this track is so refreshing, definitely one to keep in heavy rotation.
