DMGDZ (Damaged Goodz) is a hip-hop duo comprising West Coast emcee Grizzy Wynter and producer Mat Wav. The duo is bringing something refreshing to the scene with their style of music inspired by UK drill,  Dancehall lyrics, EDM sounds and reggaeton. Their latest release DMGDZ is a 7 track body of work that is a testament to their hard work and dedication to straying from the norm.

The project leads with “DROP”, a thumping drill track comprising thick pulsating basslines, and dark brooding synths underpinned by fiery raps in both English and Spanish. It’s a no-holds-barred affair that sets the tone for the rest of the project The next track “BOP” lives up to its title by all means. A punchy tune with cinematic synths, and crunchy drum grooves complete with a catchy hook is exactly what the doctor ordered. Similar energy is observed in “RISKY BUSINESS”, fusing boisterous raps filled with street-savvy lines and anthemic energy that sees both Grizzy Wynter and Matt Wav trading bars effortlessly. Next is “SOLO” featuring vocalist Sienna Samuel, a sparse and experimental tune that details their exclusive lifestyle.

It must be noted that both Grizzy Wynter and Mat Wav bring distinct and unfiltered sykes to the forefront as they blend rapping with dancehall-toasting techniques over hard-hitting beats. Such is experienced on the scenic  “PLUS ULTRA” and “BACKSHOTS”. Both tracks are filled with pure bravado and irreverent demeanour especially the latter with its modern dancehall/reggaeton infusion. The final track “ENDZ 2 ENDZ” features Ghanaian artist Will TOA and together the trio close the project on a high note with this hard-hitting and triumphant anthem that pays homage to their respective hometowns.

Overall DMGDZ is a collection of energetic and thumping tunes earmarked by raw, concentrated performances. The duo’s willingness to experiment on each track with regards to bridging rap, dancehall and reggaeton is an added element that makes the project stand out as well.
