“Dwelling in the Rotten Apple, you get tackled
Or caught by the devil’s lasso, shxt is a hassle”

Nas’s words ring true to this day even though it was spoken over 2 decades ago. New York, the city of dreams, home to Hip-Hop has bred a myriad of emcees, crews and personalities that are renowned world wide. A prime example is Mobb Deep which in turn gave us Infamous Mobb from which Big Twins emerged from. On his newest leak “Rotten Apple”, he teams up with his elder kinsman in the game, the legendary Prodigy to craft a smooth yet gritty tribute to their hometown of New York. Painting graphic imageries over a solemn piano driven soundscape built by Twiz the Beat Pro, the listener gets transported to the big apple in one fell swoop.

About:

Plenty of New York rappers have offered a lyrical tour of their city, but few have done it so potently as Big Twins and Prodigy on “The Rotten Apple.” As the title implies, it isn’t some glitzy, high-brow view of this particular concrete jungle. But there’s a certain pride to overcoming the seedy, grotesque elements of a place that “forces the best out of you or forces you to fold up.”

The track serves as the second single off Big Twins’ joint album with L.A. producer Twiz The Beat Pro, who provides a fittingly filthy instrumental for his rapping counterparts. Beyond the beat, the grit of “The Rotten Apple” comes through in lines like “We got any drug you could ever want/ And we start the drama before you ni**as front” from Twins. Not to be outdone is his guest, fellow Queensbridge native Prodigy, who compares himself to horror legend Freddy Krueger: “P. Krueger/ who’ll stalk you in your sleep like Freddy/ Plus I see you in real life, your legs turn spaghetti.”

This is NYC rap through and through. And if you’re feeling “The Rotten Apple,” keep an eye out for Twins and Twiz’s album, TNT. It drops April 1st, via Sound Unity Entertainment, and is now available for pre-order exclusively through iTunes.
