If you haven’t been up to date about the collaboration project from rapper Cee and producer/DJ Dr Mad, I would advise you check up on it HERE. After much extensive touring and opening for heavy weights such as Mos Def and Raekwon amongst others, the dynamic duo now on a short furlough finally bless us with the first single/video ‘When the chips are down‘.

Cee goes the introspective route on this tune, detailing his trails and tribulations over a mellow, soul sample driven soundscape provided by the impeccable Dr Mad. The smooth visuals were put together by Shane Russell of 9 Block Productions.

The Movement Fam’s Cee and Alaiz’s Dr. MaD (producer/DJ) have an interesting story. They worked together via a chain of connections beginning with KevinNottingham.com back in 2009, without ever actually speaking. But when Cee moved to Montreal in 2012, the two finally connected in person. MaD made some beats with Cee in mind, and what was supposed to be just a brief collab quickly escalated into a full-scale EP entitled ‘Steps To The Peak’.

The project has been in the works since early 2013, with the official release currently pencilled in for the late summer. Nova Scotian-born Shane Russell of 9Block Productions, a regular collaborator with Cee on many of his projects this year, linked up with the boys to shoot (along with Richard Bastarache), direct and edit the video for the debut single from the EP, ‘When The Chips Are Down’. The track speaks on the highs and lows of immigration, starting in a new place, and leaving your family to follow your dream.
