Veteran Bronx rapper Timothy “Tim Dog” Blair has died after suffering a seizure brought on by his longtime battle with diabetes. He was 46 years old. This is hip hop’s first death in 2013.

Tim Dog reached fame in 1991 when he put out ‘F**k Compton’, a diss track aimed at Dr. Dre and N.W.A. and said to be one of the initial stimulants that sparked the infamous East Coast vs. West Coast rap battle. The song appeared on Tim Dog’s debut album Penicillin on Wax. Dre and Snoop fired back at the Bronx legend on 1992’s ‘F**k Wit Dre Day’. Tim Dog went on to release the East Coast anthem Do or Die in ’93 and afterward formed Ultra, a hip hop twosome with Kool Keith.

Tim Dog resurfaced most recently in 2011 after scamming an unsuspecting woman out of $32,000 in an online dating scam. The rapper pled guilty to grand larceny and was sentenced to 5 years probation. The news story was featured last year on an episode of “Dateline NBC”.
