UK Producer Thomas Prime released his debut album ‘Waiting for Tomorrow’ earlier this month on Japanese Hip Hop Label Goontrax.

I have been a fan of his music for quite along while now so i was eagerly awaiting this release. And i can safely say it was worth the wait.

Twenty Two tracks deep the album features a wealth of talent from Akin Yai of CYNE, Tiff the Gift, Awon, CL, 2Mo’Key, The 49ers, Thurro and more.

In a day and age where people download albums either instead of buying them or as a preview before buying them, you can often find albums which sound great from the preview but once you listen to the whole record you find its full of ‘filler’ tracks. But this release is the opposite of that at 22 tracks you get the feeling that this album could of had 40 tracks and still have no filler!

In a album where every track is great its hard to pick a stand out track but for me Dynamite Love featuring Awon is my favourite track, to me its like a underground anthem. Awon raps about his love for Hip Hop and his journey into being a artist over an amazing beat.

The production on the album is great all round, with the perfect mix of instrumentals throughout. With some of these ‘Japanese’ releases you can often find allot of the same sounds but this is where i think Thomas Prime is differant to many similar artists, his use of sampling and varied sounds prove to me that he is not just following the same tried and tested formula but that he is making his own unique sounds and it really does pay off.

The features on the album are great, yet again Tiff the Gift proves to everyone why she is a emcee that should be respected. Too often we see female emcees get compared to other female emcees but i believe that you can compare Tiff to many male artists and she would still bury them! The 49ers also appear together and as solo artists on a few tracks, they seem to everywhere at the moment and whilst I’m a big fan of theirs and they by no means disappoint on this album i would like to see them switch it up on a couple tracks and step out of there comfort zones so to speak.

All in all i could talk about this album for ages but i’ll end by saying whether your a fan of instrus, jazzy hip hop or even that old skool sounding emcee vibe then this album is for you. And for those who were already familiar with Thomas Prime then you don’t need me to tell you that this was worth the wait.
