I first came across Ta-Ku‘s music on a South African based online publication and I for some reason assumed he was a native of said country as I had no prior knowledge of the man. The project in question that enthralled me then was his Tribute to Dilla which had about 27 ( yes 27, talk about work hectic) instrumentals that had that Yancey vibe going on. Ta-Ku has gone on to release a slew of beat tapes and amassed an enviable production credit to his name and he’s not slowing down at this rate with his new release DOWHATYOULOVE

A while ago, he dropped the gritty single ‘Boom which had that exotic eastern vibe layered over neck snapping drums and groovy percussions only at 1:11 secs long but a million times strong, now imagine 18 tracks with equal potency( let that sink in for a bit). On DOWHATYOULOVE Ta-ku takes it up a notch, mixing varied atmospheric, chilled out synths meshing them with very detailed samples( some familiar, others maybe not) layered over distinct drum patterns and breaks that will leave most necks hurting from the infectious groove. This is another brilliant effort from the beatmeister himself, total bangers from start to finish. You will be hard pressed to find a weak cut on DOWHATYOULOVE, period.

Get with the program.

“DOWHATYOULOVE” is another great body of work by an amazing producer that satisfies the classic hip hop heads as well as the futuristic-beat-lovers. An instrumental record of 18 straight bangers.
