Being from Long Beach, CA.. I had to pay homage to my hometown hero. Always representing (what our hometown calls) The Beach, Snoop Dogg (with the help of Dr. Dre) has paved the way for West Coast rap to be recognized in the world of hiphop. With Nuttin’ But A G Thang on Billboard in ’92-’93 and ranking on West Coast radio at No. 1, both Snoop & Dre had the whole nation talking about the West Coast.

With Snoop garnering mainstream attention from The Chronic, everyone was anticipating for him to release a solo album. On November 23, 1993, he released his debut album Doggystyle through then-functioning Death Row Records. It was considered as one of the most important hiphop albums released in the 90s. Besides The ChronicDoggystyle has introduced the world to the sound of G-Funk, which then brought forth West Coast hiphop as a dominant force of the 90s.

Now 20 years later, to celebrate his debut release, Snoop has decided to unleash the samples that helped shape his album into becoming No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart, selling 802,858 copies in its first week alone. This ended up being the record for the fastest-selling album ever for a debuting artist until Eminem took over with MMLP in 2000. As of 2008, the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) has certified Doggystyle quadruple platinum in sales, and it serves as Snoop’s highest-selling album.

In honor of this date, Snoop has created an enticing mixtape of the samples used on Doggystyle. Never done before, Snoop offers exclusive commentary about each song and the behind-the-scenes stories that went on during the making of the historic record. The mixtape offers fans a once-in-a-lifetime experience to hear first-hand, the creative process behind the record.

Listen to it above.
