The project opens with “On The Cusp”, a bouncy and playful tune that sees Saadiq in his element flexing on the detractors. Next is “The Rock Pt. 1”, a track with soulful vocal samples and energetic drums. Here, Saadiq continues with his bravado energy and expressive lyrics. “Deli Dashin’ “ has a solemn flute and warm textures with hushed drums while Saadiq employs a laidback, breathy flow laced with unfiltered lyrics. “Grown Ass Man” uses a jersey club bounce with extensive sampling techniques. Saadiq’s performance here is rousing and intense but the mix is a bit weird and not so cohesive. “Same Day” starts with a reflective sample with thick drum grooves underpinned by Saadiq’s vivid storytelling and no-holds-barred raps that weave stream-of-consciousness thoughts seamlessly. Lines like“Graduated from the school of punches I just got my gown/I had 2, be 4 I knew I was down 6, before I 8, I had to count my cash and stare at my chips,”. Next is the “Spend Another Interlude” and “Gimme A Call”. The former is a short piece that sees Saadiq reflecting on that special someone who caught his eye while the latter continues the story with Saadiq imploring her to give her a call because he has what she needs. On “Love Me Till Yesterday”, a bouncy jersey club jam that is underpinned by Saadiq’s fast-paced flow and vivid lyrics that detail his experience with love and the ups and downs that come with it. “Jill Scott” has a similar vibe to the previous tracks and is underpinned by rapid, energetic rapping from the emcee. Tracks like “Ride The Wall” and “Lame Ahh Freestyle” have playful and energetic elements and a whole lot of bravado raps with numerous pop references and unfiltered rhyme schemes
The project closes out with the “New Jewlery” and “Duance Odell Knoxs”. The former has a guitar riff, bouncy upbeat groove and a catchy chorus while the latter is laidback and sees Saadiq employing a breathy laidback flow. Overall Cold Feet is a testament to believing in oneself as Saadiq mentions that he wasn’t content with the initial mixing results and due to Cold Feet, he had to push the release date back. The tracks have similar energy and the lyrics are easy to follow as he doesn’t try to overwhelm listeners with super lyrical schemes or novel concepts. I must add, he sure has a way with words and often litters the tracks with interesting wordplay, and entertaining pop references that are uniquely threaded together.
