Shark has returned to the treacherous waters of the hip-hop game. He’s learned a lot along the way and is ready to take on the world. After years of dropping independent releases under the name Sharky or Sharky the Great, his music has evolved and his name has shortened.

When I asked him about the name change, he said, “I make grown man rap now, so Sharky felt like the old me. Now I’m just the Shark.”

This song has been in the work for five years. He originally recorded it over a different beat but ultimately ended up shelving the track. When he heard DJ Alkemy’s beat, the lyrics fit it perfectly.

Next up was providing visuals to it that truly captured the feel and essence of the track. That is where Exponent3 came in. He directed the video and supplied all of the animation. If you look closely, you will notice cameos from Know-It, Fraction, Cable, Pro-Logic, Scoot Over, and more.

I love the mature sound, the message of the track, and the fact that this isn’t just another rapper “performing for the camera” video. I can’t wait to hear more from the Shark. We might just need a bigger hard drive.

“One Day” is the first single from Shark’s new album “Big Fish in a Bigger Pond.”

Stay tuned to his Bandcamp page and look for more big things from the Sons of Boombap.
