Ice Cube recently spoke to MTV about his upcoming movie, “21 Jump Street”, and answered some questions about another (possible) movie in the NWA Biopic. I don’t know what’s I’m happier about, the NWA movie or Ice Cube doing watchable movies again.

John Singleton was initially rumored to be on board as a director but, according to Cube, they are still searching for a director. Here’s Cube on the search:

“We’re interviewing a lot of directors. I don’t want to say ‘ye’ or ‘nay,’ but we’re interviewing directors,” he said. “So, the movie’s in progress in this high speed, and it’s coming along. Hopefully, we get it done.”

Apparently, the script is progressing rather rapidly as well:

“I’m happy with the script. The script is about 75 percent there. We’re waiting to hire a director and then bring it all home,” he said. “It’s always stumbling blocks in Hollywood. There are always ways that the movie can not get made. Until they green-light the picture, start cutting checks, it’s still just a dream.”

And finally, Cube talks about finding the right actors, including the possibility that his son might play him:

“That’s a dream come true, but we’re going to find the best actor to do the job. That’s the thing about movies: You have got to find the best people to do the role,” he said. “It is going to be a role that I think is right for unknowns, people who you haven’t seen before. I think that’s the best way to pull this off.”

I’m not sure if I agree with casting unknowns because I saw “Notorious” and there’s a reason the guy who played Biggie is still referred to as the “The Guy Who Played Biggie”. However, I’m still intrigued. More updates when I get them.
