Brighton-born singer/songwriter Iyamah (pronounced i-yam-ah) grew up with an artistic mother who helped her cultivate the creative side of her being. She self-taught herself the piano and started writing her songs at the age of 13 as she slowly found her voice while soaking inspiration from legends like Ms. Dynamite and Erykah Badu. After releasing her debut single “Cryptic Love” in 2018, the singer has proceeded to work with numerous acts in different genres and touring festivals like Glastonbury and SW4.
Now she just released her debut album In Two Worlds, a genre-bending project that showcases her love for neo-soul, hip-hop with roots music and in the meantime, she shares the lead song “Luxury”. The soothing bouncy tune explores the concept of basking in the good things in life that she willed into existence. Over the plucky guitar strings, warm pads and soul-stirring textures, IYAMAH bridges the gap between fantasy and reality with an introspective take on aspirational thoughts, fear of success and the pros and cons that come with material wealth amongst other things like social media facade and its detrimental effects on our minds. Her heartfelt and candid lyrics dig deep into the subject at hand and we hear her pour every fibre of her being on wax. From straying away from materialism to finding a balance with the reality of being prosperous, she comes to terms with her aspirations with a hopeful and resolved spirit.
IYAMAH moved to London aged nineteen to study at the Institute of Contemporary Music Performance, winning scholarship award for best vocals. She has since been handpicked to tour with the likes of Masego and Mahalia, performed at Cross The Tracks festival, recorded live sessions for Metropolis Songs, Redbull and Majestic Casual, and sold-out multiple headline shows including The Jazz Café and OMEARA. She has accumulated over 20 million streams and received continuous support from Yazmin Evans and DJ Ace (BBC 1Xtra) and The Joe Budden Podcast.
