Whether you’ve been a fan since day one, or were hit decades later with their music like an enlightening brick to the dome, a good A Tribe Called Quest mix is always sure to please the fans. With such an institution in the genre, there’s a million under the sun. DJ A-Up knew this all too well before deciding to craft his own ode, choosing to mix productions, featured spots and other rare tid-bits (largely from his own stack o’ wax) instead of the well trodden “best of” ground. As a result, with tracks featuring musicians such as REM and Hiatus Kaiyote and many in between, this at times sounds unlike the popularly familiar Tribe sound, but ultimately draws together their wide-ranging influence and legacy.
