The big man himself, Big Shug of the Gangstarr Foundation, blesses us all with this visual for the track titled Heavy. A veteran like Shug always represents when it comes to hip hop. He knows where to swing the bat and when to slice like a Samurai. If you aren’t familiar with who he is then search out Militia part 1, 2 and 3 from the Gangstarr albums to get familiar and that should be enough schooling.

Big Shug is a god emcee and actually handles the track like a boss that he is, the same demeanor as what you see in the video. He leaves the prancing to his partners in rhyme, M-Dot and Benefit. M-Dot has that word play in check and Benefit has that mean-mugging approach. Each one plays the appointed role well and their presence is felt but Shug really has that commanding appeal that makes you sit up and listen to what he has to say. He really knows how to dictate to the mic like Fidel you know, Castro that is (and that is me borrowing from Jeru The Damaja). Shout out to DJ Reel Drama for the cuts, and Norman Cratez who is nice with the backing track. The boom bap experience is complete on this one; the video is for the heads too so don’t for a second look for the bikinis as there’s none.
