Samon Kawamura is a music producer and multi-instrumentalist born in Berlin, raised in Tokyo and now once again residing in Berlin.  His debut, Translations (2007) could be considered a turntablist’s journey of tutelage, exploring an array of influences and coming out the other side as a product with it’s own identity.  The follow-up, Unfold (2008) built on this and developed a varied personality attracting the likes of Sa-Ra, Kev Brown, Oh No, Aloe Blacc and Ta’raach.

You could throw rudimentary definitions at Kawamura’s sound; jazzy hip-hop, melodic, chill out… but there’s a lot of subtlety in the music that reflects a wealth of cultural and musical experiences peppered by candid vocal recordings of a mostly enlightening (but sometimes perplexing) nature.

Speaking of which, his latest project is the ongoing Spur Of The Moment series “whose essence lies in their spontaneity… capturing raw experiences and fleeting moments of inspiration and building beats which embody them”.  The 25 track THAIMA is the first instalment in the series, “Simply put, Kawamura has taken classics sounds from Bangkok’s street kitchens and infused them with his own Hip Hop flavours. Dinner is served.”
