Vocab Slick – “CALMPOSITION”.

“CALMPOSITION” is a conceptual and insightful track by Vocab Slick who proceeds with a fusion of introspective and stream-of-consciousness. The title is a portmanteau of the words Calm and composition and those alements are showcased throughout the track’s duration.

 

 

Sierra Marin – “Me Again”

 

 

Multi-faceted artist Sierra Marin caught our ears with her new single “Me Again,” a heartfelt and empowering track that infuses alternative soul with rap. The production is soothing and warm and fits her insightful bars that focus on reclaiming one’s power after a tumultous and toxic relationship.

 

 

 

King Luck – “Success On My Menu(Eat Up)”

 

 

Lyricist King Luck has his mind on his goals in new single “Success On My Menu(Eat Up).” Backed by a cinematic backdrop that evoke surgency, the rapper stands on business and clears all doubts as he continues to overcome the odds.

 

 

RYN SCOTT – “Headed North” feat. Drew Verde

 

 

Hard working rapper/songwriter RYN SCOTT goes back to his Mid-west roots in new single “Headed North.” The track has a bright and plucky vibe and sees SCOTT basking in the memories of the past and the warmth of summer a she escapes from the craziness of the world. Joining him is singer Drew Verde who adds a smooth melodic touch up to the track.

 

 

 

Cam Be x Neak x J. Ivy x Johnny Burgos – “Buttafly”.

“Buttafly” is the new leak from the musical duo Cam Be and Neak‘s new collabortaive project Buttafly. The track is a fusion of styles ranging from modern neo-soul, alternative hiphop with contemporary R&B and sees the duo reflecting on the inevitability of change and how difficult it can be to go through a phase to become better. Over the soft warm key arrnagements, airy horns and head nodding drums, we also get singer/songwriter  Johnny Burgos injecting their soulfulness into the uplifting track.

 

Cosima Olu – “Ten Feet Tall”

Swedish singer/songwriter Cosima Olu ventures into this week’s playlist with “Ten Feet Tall,” a soft neo-doul ballad that aims to uplift our souls. Armed with her distinctive, sultry vocals  that rises to a plateua on the chorus section, Olu reminds us to never take our eyes on our true selves and always go back to our roots whenever we feel lost. The track is a precursor to her album In Between, coming this fall.

Brandon Mitchell – “Legendary Elevation” (feat. Nia Cheri)

Brandon Mitchell recently put out his album, Game Time and , a 15 track body of work that details his journey as a creative, father, husband and black man in the US of A. From within the project comes the song, “Legendary Elevation” featuring Nia Cheri on the hook. As the song title suggests, it centres around growth, appreciation for surviving the rough times and stll having one’s family around to withness the aftermath.

 

Louis Davis, Jr. x KingLung – “CYBERTRON” (feat. KingLung)

 

Bay area native Louis Davis Jr. and KingLung return with “CYBERTRON,” a hard-hitting track anchored on self-resilience in the face of adverse conditions. Backed by a dark cinematic backdrop, the emcees proceed to kick insightful bars layrred with wit metaphors and style and tie it up with a Transformers reference that brings it all together.

 

 

 

 

The Dignitaries – “Money Tree”

Buffalo, NY-based duo The Dignitaries caught our ears with their new single “Money Tree.” Bolstered by a laidback soulful soundscape briming with scenic strings and moody pads and soft drums, the duo share their thoughts on their respective trials and tribulations and how they traverse an unforgiving worls. The duo consist of childhood friends, Illy Ali and Anthymonthetrack.

 

 

 

D. Bird x Loose Logic x Chino XL – “Flow Fury”

D. Bird connects with Loose Logic and the legendary Chino XL  of late memory for “Flow Fury.” The track is a fusion of contemporary commericla sound with punchy trap drums and cinematic synths underpinned by raw, unfiltered raps from the emcees anchore dby a smooth melodic hook. The track is taken from D. Bird’s forthcoming debut album Fully-functioning Adult Rapper.

 

 

Steven Thad – “Smile”

 

Rising singer/songwriter Steven Thad pens an uplifitng letter to that special someone in his new single “Smile.”  Dove Award Winner and Grammy nominated producer Dana Sorey is the man behind the track and he crafts a retro tinged, soul-stirring soundscape brimming with lush pads, anthemic horn trills, and sturdy grooves that serves as the perfect backdrop for Thad’s sultry vocals and heartfelt lyrics that aims to lighten up the mood.

 

 

 

 

Jimmy B Fearless – “I Want It”

Jimmy B Fearless‘s “I Want It” is a bouncy and playful tune that explores his flirtatious side. Over the lush textures and club-ready grooves, he delivers slick bars detailing a steamy session with that special someone who is down for the ride.

 

Andrew Bigs – “Hold Up”

East Side San Jose, Californi-born rapper Andrew Bigs enters our playlist with his latest single “Hold Up,” a hard-hitting lyrical display that is anchored on cinematic tetxures and pulsating bass-driven grooves crafted by Rey Resurreccion.

 

 

 

 

 

 

Max Moon – “Little Do They Know”.

Canadian alternative rapper Max Moon caught our ears with “Little Do They Know.” Backed by the offbeat jazz-inspired backdrop proboded by veteran music producer Fresh Kils, Max Moon delivers an off-kilter jam brimming with stream-of-consciousness and vivid imagery. This is the first single off his debut solo album, Nickel City.

 

Glane x – “So Many Bodies”

Glane x‘s “So Many Bodies” is a story-telling piece that takes listeners deep into his world where any wrong move could be fatal. Over a soulful soundscape, he details how he copes with loss and the trauma that follows.

 

 

Krip Tha Don – “Test 101”

Emerging emcee  Krip Tha Don enters this week’s playlist with “Test 101,” a bravado-driven track filled with off-kilter, no-holds-barred lyrics and expressive flows.

 

TaVori Lewis – “Came So Far” (feat. John Skywalker)

Upriding artist TaVori Lewis unveils his debut single  “Came So Far” featuring John Skywalker. The track samples a classic R&B track and infuses it to create a soul-stirring ambiance underpinned by aspirational lyrics and vivid storytelling from both rappers. The rappers take time to reflect on their life journey from young kids to adults and the neve rending trials and tribulations which made them into the men that tey are right now.

 

Crafty 893 – “Step 1”

 

 

Eclectic UK artist Crafty 893 is back with something new in the form of the hard-hitting single “Step 1.” Backed by a gritty, cinematic backdrop, he breaks down the steps needed for weak emcees to get by while reminding them of their lowly status in the game.

 

 

Jon Vinyl – “Dopamine”

Ontario,Canada-based singer/songwriter Jon Vinyl shares new single “Dopamine,” a mellow love ballad that details a session between two lovers.

 

Girl Is The New Boy – “Fashion Me A Drum”.

Australian alternative act Girl Is The New Boy share new single “Fashion Me A Drum” featuring Circle. The track is a modern R&B/alternative pop tune with subtle hip-hop elements that makes it distinct. Over atmospheric pads, cinematic textures and punchy hip-hop drums, the lead singer delivers a soul-stirring performance that centre around falling in love, the euphoria that comes with it and the internal changes that seems to be forever.

Tamera King – “6.27 Interlude”

Uprising singer/songwriter Tamera King enters this week’s playlist with “6.27 Interlude.” The track is a heartfelt, guitar-laden ballad that explores the pain and confusion that comes when a lover ghosts you. The lyrics are touching and emotionally powerful as Tamera King runs through the situation and tries to answer the numerous questions to no avail.

 

Light Bulb Execs – “Wasting Oxygen”

Music collective Light Bulb Execs turn in their new single “Wasting Oxygen,” an offbeat boombap track that samples a classic soul song. The showcase of stream of consciousness lyricism and smooth melodies in seamless fashion is refreshing. This is the same sample 2pac used on the posthumously released song “Ready for whatever”

 

J Nuller x Really M.E. – “Counting My Blessings”

New Jersey Native, J Nuller, connects with Really M.E. for “Counting My Blessings,” an anthemic tune that sees the emcees in their element over an anthemic soundscape.

 

Glane x – “Singapore”

Glane x caught our ears with his commanding flows and descriptive raps in his latest release, “Singapore.” The track explores the never ending struggles young black men face and the survival instaincts that keeps them on their toes.

 

 

 

 

Bobby Thibs x $piff x Day Andrade – “Wesley Snipes”

The trio of Bobby Thibs, $piff and Day Andrade team up for “Wesley Snipes.” The track is a homage to the legendary actor and his unparalleled charisma, and each emcee embodies this with their expressive flows and stylish flows laced over a dreamy lucid backdrop.

 

 

The Kid Kung Fu x Kid Astronaut – “Black Church”

“Black Church” is a Gospel/soul-infused summer jam from The Kid Kung Fu and Kid Astronaut. The result is an uplifting tune laced with rich chords, lush guitar plucks , warm pads and a head-nodding drum groove underpinned by insightful lines and a catchy chorus.

 

Lucid – “HOLLYWOOD”

Lucid‘s latest release, “HOLLYWOOD,” is a bravado-driven track that is anchored on energetic boastful raps and engaging cadences over a cinematic and punchy soundscape.

 

 

 

Jackie Santos – “Only Love”

Emerging singer/songwriter Jackie Santos unveils her new track “Only Love,” which is the title track of her forthcoming debut album.  The track is a soothing R&B/soul number that brims with soul-stirring melodic runs and reflective-filled lyrics that detail the euphoria of finding true love and losing it.

 

Badius – “10 Second Phone Call”

Singer Badius recruits G-Eazy  for “10 Second Phone Call,” a mid-tempo catchy track that fuses smooth melodic runs and dope raps.

 

kVZP – “This is MY ward”

Belgian rapper kVZP breaks through the doors with the hard-hitting track, “This is MY ward.” Backed by a cinematic and ominous beat, the rapper delivers an enggaing performance ripe with vivid lyrical imagery that dives deep in the dark crevices of his imagination.

 

Arvin – “The Dance”

“The Dance” is a reflective track from Canadian rapper/songwriter Arvin, who makes his debut entry on our playlist. Over a solemn and ominous soundscape, he shares with listeners his deepest fears and hopes in an unforgiving world.

 

KiLLOWEN – “All 2 U”

 

London’s Garage-Rap sensation KiLLOWEN helps close this week’s playlist with “All 2 U.” The track samples the classic “My Boo” by Ghost Town DJ from the 90s and flips it into a modern garage infused track. Here, he pens an adulation-filled letter to that special someone who warms his heart.
