Electronic/Hip-Hop/R&B producer Zer0 Tolerance is not new to us on TWIB and on his debut EP BETA, he delivers a solid body of work that blends different genres in his own unique way. The project sees him working with artists from different backgrounds and overall it showcases Zero’s genre-defying production style.

“FADE/BETA BLUE” is a moody and somewhat atmospheric love ballad featuring Steve Nyse. Over  Zer0 Tolerance’s dynamic production fuses downtempo moody R&B vibes with punchy drums and dark pads, Steve delivers a heartfelt performance ripe with lovelorn emotions that slowly rise to a plateau. This is followed by  “GRAVITY” which has Ethan Martin on vocal duties. On here, the drums are funky and groovy and the retro-pop aesthetics are prominent and work perfectly with Ethan’s unique vocal inflections. His laidback and unassuming vocal runs cut through the mix and showcase his versatility as a performer. He doesn’t try to overperform and rather he goes for a natural tone and he keeps it engaging from start to finish.

Sakari and Xai appear on the groovy dance-pop tune titled “GO!”. The title is apt and it’s an ear-grabbing jam that displays soothing and sultry melodies and uplifting lyrics that aim to get us going regardless of the hurdles we might face in love. Lines like “I need a pit stop please, I can’t take no more of this” signals a change as he decides to take hard decisions to move on to better things. “NOW BOARDING” is the only instrumental track and it helps take the project in another direction with soothing and atmospheric pads, airy vocal hums and rich textures underpinned by a solid dance groove.

The last two tracks “BABY, COME HOME” and “FEW BLOOD MOONS”  venture into different musical territories and is a clear testament to Zer0 Tolerance’s production prowess. “BABY, COME HOME” is an afro pop-infused jam made up of head-nodding percussions, grooves and atmospheric pads peppered by sultry vocal performances from Wendy Kay and BRYAN THE MENSAH. Wendy sets the tone with her soul-lifting melodic runs followed by MENSAH’s patois-infused vocal inflections. The result is a solid experimental Afro-pop number that will surely appeal to lovers of the Afropop genre. The final track “FEW BLOOD MOONS” taps B-Ry on vocal duties and it’s a mellow deep house/dance-infused jam that takes the project to the final phase. The sublime and solemn textures all come together perfectly for B-Ry’s filtered spoken word-like performance.

With just 6 tracks and a running time of 17 minutes, Zer0 delivers the goods in this project and for lovers of Afropop, EDM, and Future R&B/soul then this project is for you.
