Well, this is new. Musician will.i.am. is getting ready to release a new single today titled “Reach For The Stars”. Only he is partnering with NASA (yes, that NASA) to do so. At 4PM EST on Tuesday, August 28th, “Reach For The Stars” will debut via live broadcast from the Mars Curiosity Rover which is still physically on the surface of the Red Planet.

According to NASA, members of the team that successfully landed the rover on Mars earlier this month will explain to students the mission and the technology behind the song’s interplanetary transmission. will.i.am will then premiere “Reach for the Stars,” a new composition about the singer’s passion for science, technology, and space exploration.

The entire event can be seen and heard on NASA’s website.

This is only the beginning of will.i.am’s most recent endeavors using his music career in order educate youth around the globe. Will.i.am’s i.am.angel Foundation, in conjunction with Discovery Education of Silver Spring, Md., a provider of digital resources to kindergarten through grade 12 classrooms, plans to continue this series of science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics initiatives using NASA assets.

And just to clarify, this is in fact the first-ever single released to earthlings from a different planet.
