Khalil offers us his newest song and accompanying visual, a compelling piece titled Surface. In his unique fashion, Khalil delves deep into soul searching mode here fusing soul and reggae(to a lesser extent) in finding a deeper purpose in his life.
Surface is taken from Khalil’s upcoming EP “The Comfort Zone” which will be released later this year.
“Surface is a self help message to myself. I wrote the words strictly as a poem. I had just left a the house of a girl I’d just met. I left feeling incomplete…..like a failure. Very misunderstood.”
“I wrote it and thought nothing of it. A couple days later I came across the beat for the song (a J Dilla instrumental) and spit the poem to it. That was the first time a song I wrote gave me such an intense feeling. I felt a release. I felt like I was coming above the water.”
