Bram Van Splunteren travelled from the Netherlands to the birthplace of hip-hop music and culture in 1986. He brought along a camera crew and produced an excellent documentary that until very recently has never seen the light of day in North America.

Commercially available for the first time after more than 25 years, “Big Fun in the Big Town” is a great exploration of hip-hop. It features clips and interviews from Grandmaster Flash, Run-DMC, Roxanne Shante, Biz Markie, Russel Simmons, LL Cool J, Doug E Fresh, and more. You get to see them at their prime and at a time when artistry was at the centre of the music. It was the start of the Golden Age of hip-hop.

After watching the film, Chase March caught up with Bram Van Spluneteren for this exclusive interview.

Enjoy!
