L.A. based hip hop duo Paradise Jonze made up of rapper/producer Alpharo and rapper JakeyO share with us their single “OLDER,” a reflective piece that captures the duo’s lives as it progresses over a smooth and soulful soundscape.
“OLDER” is the first track from Paradise Jonze!, the duo’s first EP.
werdperfect – “Cape Fear”
werdperfect steps into the limelight with “Cape Fear,” a smooth bravado-laden piece that showcases his expressive lyricism and stylish flow over a plucky and bright soundscape.
DannyP – “Look Around”.
Emerging Stamford, CT-based teenage singer/songwriter/producer DannyP caught our ears with his new release “Look Around.” The self-produced track showcases his rich musicality and vocal range as he blends earworm melodic runs with edgy rapping. Here, he talks about several characters who go through the ups and downs of life while forgetting to seek true fulfilment and gratitude for the things life gave them.
SEPHRINA – “SCORCHED EARTH”
Uprising singer/songwriter SEPHRINA is ready to go the distance and leave “SCORCHED EARTH” results for the love of her life. Over the atmospheric and sublime soundscape, she pours her heart on wax as she confesses her undying love for that special someone who brings nothing but joy to her life. The song is a heartfelt tribute to her fiance.
Jah Freedom x Dynas – “War & Peace”.
Grammy-winning producer Jah Freedom and prolific lyricist Dynas return with their new single “War & Peace” featuring fellow lyricist Scienz of Life. Together they team up to give listeners a masterclass in social-political themes laced with engaging and thought-provoking lyricism over a banging soundscape.
C-1 Beatz – “Keep it Moving”.
C-1 Beatz drops off his new single “Keep it Moving” for us to rock with. Over a soulful sample and bouncy drums, the rapper reminds us of the need to push through the rubble and keep things moving because time waits for nobody.
Team Demo – “Adaptive” (feat. G. Dep, Kurious)
Producer crew Team Demo enlists the talents of NY rap vets G. Dep and Kurious for their new single “Adaptive.” The result is a gritty and head-nodding tune ripe with slick guitar licks and punchy drum grooves underpinned by stylish lyricism from both rappers. “Adaptive” is available now through all major digital retailers and streaming platforms.
Kameron Desmond – “Mirrors”.
Kameron Desmond helps add some much-needed soul upliftment to the playlist with his new single “Mirrors.” Backed by an atmospheric soundscape with punchy drums, Kameron talks about the naysayers and detractors who doubted him but his faith in God and persistence got him where he is now.
Billy Phono x Raph Stormwalker – “Feep Dake” feat. Wolfgang Von Vanderghast
UK-based rapper Billy Phono and producer Raph Stormwalker caught our ears with their new single “Feep Dake” featuring rapper Wolfgang Von Vanderghast. The jazz-infused boom-bap cut harks back to the 90s with a modern twist showcasing expressive flows and off-beat lyricism laced with that good old UK dry humour.
KJ(!) – “Designer”
KJ(!)‘s latest release “Designer” is a smooth summer-tinged tune that showcases his distinct melodic flow and stream-of-consciousness raps. The record dwells on the concept of being a designer; in the sense of designing one’s destiny, self and fate by taking the right steps.
Rahseed Defoe – “Scandinavian Feel”
Swedish emcee Rahseed Defoe gift us that “Scandinavian Feel” which is taken from his upcoming EP with producer Tompa T. The track features Jester and Just who all complete the cypher with hard-hitting rhymes over a soulful soundscape.
Chizlonies the Lord – “Bad Day”
Chizlonies the Lord enters our playlist once more with “Bad Day,” a reflective tune that details the never-ending soul-searching and intrusive thoughts that try to ruin one’s day.
Yugí – “NIGHTMARES”
Australian rapper Yugí gives us a glimpse into his life in “NIGHTMARES.” The piano-driven jazz soul soundscape sets the perfect tone for Yugí’s laidback flow and heartfelt lyrics that dig deep into his experiences.
Kay Haj – “Durags & Bonnets” (feat. Dé Jordan)
Kay Haj and Dé Jordan give us some his and hers vibes with their new collaboration “Durags & Bonnets.” The track is an homage to the black hair culture with a touch of finesse and style.
Wes Linden – “Good Days”.
Emerging rapper/songwriter Wes Linden looks back at the “Good Days” in his new single. The uplifting tune comprises rich and warm textures with a punchy groove underpinned by Wes’ smooth flow and a catchy melodic hook to match.
Will Murray – “Me”.
M.I.C and Will Murray team up for “Me,” a mellow lyric-dense track that is ripe with no-holds-barred lyrics laced over a guitar-driven soundscape.
CASSANDRA – “Carmen”.
Rising pop star and classically trained opera singer Cassandra caught our ears with her new single “Carmen.” The cinematic piece showcases her rich vocal range and genre-bending style that breaks the mould at every turn. Using her classical training and modern pop aesthetics, Cassandra delivers a powerful female empowerment anthem inspired by the iconic opera character of the same name. The production is dynamic and enthralling and coupled with Cassandra’s powerful performance, it’s one for the books.
SELECT SELECT – “Rush Hour”.
Emerging UK rapper SELECT SELECT makes an appearance on our playlist with “Rush Hour”. The track employs a similar sample from K-Dot‘s “Money Trees” and flips it into something new and engaging. Here SELECT SELECT details his experiences as a young man facing social pressures, urgency and jadedness as life keeps throwing curveballs. Ultimately, his conclusion is to sit tight, refocus his thoughts and come out of the doldrums with renewed vigour.
Dope Sasquatch x MBK Richy x MICKEY FACTZ x Halfcut – “No Facades” prod. by ShockOne (cuts by Tone Spliff)”.
Elmira, NY indie label Dope Sasquatch share their new single “No Facades” which brings together emcees MBK Richy, MICKEY FACTZ and Halfcut over a gritty soundscape provided by ShockOne. The track is a lyrical masterclass showcasing unadulterated lyricism from the trio who take tunes to express how they remain real in a world full of illusions. The track is then garnished with ginsu sharp cuts by the one and only Tone Spliff.
HVZE – “Make Something”.
LA-based Bay Area independent Hip Hop & R&B artist HVZE teams up with PersonaFi and Remi Sira for this uplifting tune “Make Something” about the ups and downs of being an adult in this modern age. Backed by a sublime and soulful soundscape, the artists share their perspectives on adulting and HVZE tops it with a positive attitude reminding us that he will never falter.
Swamp Thing – “SOS”
Toronto’s Hip Hop Trio, Swamp Thing raise the energy levels with “SOS,” a hard-hitting lyric-dense jam that serves as the first release from their forthcoming album. As usual, the trip delivers another head banging gritty tune marked by brooding cinematic soundscapes and edgy lyricism.
Ghostboyrj – “Grounded”
Toronto-born rapper Ghostboyrj drops a new track “Grounded” featuring celinee. Over a lofi-soul soundscape, the emcee details his tastes and style when it comes to love, friendship and the never-ending struggle.
Bobby Thibs – “Bloom”
Pawtucket, Rhode Island-based rapper Bobby Thibs help us close this week’s playlist with his newest release “Bloom” featuring Aaron Michael. The track dwells on blossoming love and the deep love for that special someone who complements his style.
